My friend René drove me to the airport, because the railways were on strike that day. I felt like I was going to emigrate. I was going to stay with Hadassa, who was more than six months pregnant of our daughter. There were only a few people waiting for the counter. As I had bought a single ticket, which was in fact half a return, the Dutch security official said: "So you are living in Israel?" I said "half". He only asked the standard questions, after which I got a nice place at a window, from where shortly after I could see the central station of Amsterdam below me, with the trains on strike.

Travelling with a little baby made that the security lasted less than a minute. As it was not full we had three chairs instead of only one. I put Alma next to me in the baby-seat I had taken. She started to cry and I gave her milk. The Dutch couple behind us said "You out a bottle in them and they are silent". They had more of such remarks. After the doors had closed and air started to be blown into the cabin Alma uttered horrible shouts, as if she was wounded. I saw milk above her eyes, in her neck and on her back. Her clothes appeared to be totally soaked with the milk she had drunk. Apparently the change in pressure had pushed it out of her stomach. After I had changed her clothes she slept until ten next morning.

The woman at the check in had promised me to keep the place next to me free until the last moment, and when I had passed the customs control with Alma she said that one passenger had not come. I was happy I did not have to hold my baby six hours on my lap. A young woman from Groningen took the third seat. She worked in a kindergarten. Her passport was signed by the same clerk as mine. She played with Alma and took with pleasure care for her when I wanted to go to the toilet. Our plane landed first at Ovda and when we entered the waiting room there all officials thought she was Alma's mother. After arrival in Ben Goerion I did not see her anymore. Hadassa waited for us and with tears in her eyes she took Alma in her arms. Taxi drivers disturbed us, nagging for passengers, and Hadassa told them "Fuck off!"
