Late at night I entered the departure hall. It was full of nervous people. Many flights were delayed or cancelled. KLM-passengers were waiting since 4 in the afternoon. We had only 1 hour delay. The pilot of my charter-flight told us that, due to a strike of the fuel-suppliers, many planes were stuck at the airport. They, however, had been so clever to make a stop in Cyprus, take fuel, fly to Tel Aviv and back and take fuel again. KLM, with it rigid schemes, had not been able to do so. That's how I made a landing in Cyprus, which, after some hesitation, for the time being I consider to be a border crossing. |

The security check at the airport in Amsterdam was so easy that Hadassa almost got frightened. Our flight was quite pleasant. Immediately after we arrived in Israel all Israelis seemed to have become nervous. We were packed into a sherut and raced to Jerusalem. When we had almost reached town a male behind us complained about the radio. He wanted it on, or off, or he wanted music instead of news. Somebody commented on his remark and soon their was the usual loud shouting. I commented that it was clear that we had arrived in Israel, which made the complaining guy even more angry. |

From the plane I saw the Greek islands, I saw the mountains of Athos, I saw a smoking power station, I saw the Alps and shortly before the landing I saw parts of the rectangles of the Dutch landscape moving under the clouds. It looked liked the paintings of Thomas Rajlich, a Czech artist who settled in Holland. |
