We had decided to visit the Cremisan monastery near Bethlehem, but the crossing of the new Palestinian border was the main attraction. Although I saw the Palestinian flag, I hesitated to add this border to my archive. I considered upgrading their status, like the United Nations did, but only later, when I saw at the Jordan news that Palestine had a national football team, I finally added this border, although the Palestinians lost their games. The Cremisan wine, mainly exported to Jordan, is labelled "Bethlehem - Holy Land". |

After landing in Holland I had to wait half an hour for my luggage. I looked through the glass wall, dividing passengers from their relatives and friends and I found my sister Gina there. She had come all the way in the middle of the night by train to meet me. We could not talk, but we were able to show photos. After finally my luggage had come I could pass through the customs and meet her without barrier. As I always feel embarrassed doing the diplomatic three-times kiss on the cheeks and I did not know how to show my affection to my sister otherwise I hugged her clumsily and touched by accident for an instant her neck with my cheek. I thought this was an improper way of hugging my sister, and the warmth I felt from her neck burnt a scar on my mind. We went by train through the dark to The Hague without touching the item, however. |

I felt a pleasant satisfaction after visiting the "De Pont" museum in Tilburg and "Van Abbe" in Eindhoven. In Maastricht I missed a bus to the "Bonnefantenmuseum", less than one hour before closing time. I was too lazy to walk and I did not want to wait for the next bus. Therefore I decided to make the first border crossing without a goal since I had made my exhibition of border crossings. I took a bus to Aachen, Germany, about 30 kilometers away. There were only a few people in the bus, but just behind me two boys with schoolbags sat down and started to talk loudly in the Limburg dialect, like my aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces from that region. I realized I would have talked the same dialect if my father would not have been transferred by the PTT from Maastricht to The Hague. I felt inclined to identify with my Limburg roots as some people do with judaism when they realize they have a jewish parent or grandparent. |

I woke up at 4.50, left at 5.42 and at 6.20 I met my sister Gina, with her little daughter Nikki, at the station in The Hague. Riding in the train to the airport I repacked my bags. After checking in we sat down at the airport cafetaria and drank milk and tea. Little Nikki played inside the ball bath. When we took leave of each other at 8.45, I hugged Gina clumsily. For an instant the warmth of her neck at my cheek reminded me of the same touch, tacitly considered inproper, as when I arrived. I felt very embarrassed, but we parted without touching the item. After arrival in Israel at 17.15 I took a shared taxi. It arrived in Jerusalem at 19.00 and I could have been home ten minutes later, if the driver would not have brought all the other passengers first, if we would not have landed into traffic jams caused by protesting students, and if the driver would not have quarreled with many of the other passengers, including a couple at the Hilton whose bags were left in our car after they had been manoeuvred into an other one. After I finally had arrived at 20.10 my little daughter Alma wanted to hug me all the time, kissing me on my cheeks. Hadassa arrived twenty minutes later from her course. |
