A marbled ladder in
a room, preferably in a hidden or dead-end spot in a museum.
A total of six have been realized: Two in a gallery, two in a home, one in my
studio, one in a school building.
All have now been dismantled.
This is the second prototype, made in a flat in Jerusalem, 2001
Een gemarmerde ladder in een ruimte, bij voorkeur in een verborgen of
doodlopende plek in een museum.
In totaal zijn er zes gerealiseerd: Twee in een galerie, twee in een woning, één
in mijn atelier, één in een schoolgebouw.
Alle zijn inmiddels gedemonteerd.
Dit is het tweede prototype, gemaakt in een flat in Jeruzalem in 2001.

This was the first public installation of an monumental emergency exit.
In a small room, a cube of three meters, a wall is painted on three of the walls. The room looks like a closed cell. The middle wall has a long narrow vertical opening which is covered with strong horizontal bars, like a ladder. You would think you could climb out of this space. The bars look like horizontal pillars.
On the left there is a small framed painting of a cube-form bed. On the floor there is a mattress covered with a white sheet.
About every two minutes the visitor can hear a loud shout from behind the wall, a short "hey!"

I created this emergency exit in the basement of the Northern University of Applied Sciences Leeuwarden, on the occasion of the exhibition I had there together with René de Rooze..

This installation consisted of two monumental emergency exits in a room covered with yellow and gray-blue eight-pointed stars.
I asked colleague René de Rooze to intervene in this room. He filled the room with a complete edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica and proposed requiring all visitors to enter the room wearing a burqa. So it happened.
Deze installatie bestond uit twee monumentale nooduitgangen in een ruimte, bedekt met gele en grijsblauwe achtpuntige sterren.
Ik vroeg collega René de Rooze in ingreep in deze ruimte te doen. Hij hing de ruimte vol met een complete editie van de Encyclopædia Britannica en hij stelde voor alle bezoekers te verplichten de ruimte in een burka te betreden. Aldus geschiedde.
Na de demontage van "Eingang und Ausgang" werden de panelen naar mijn atelier gebracht. De twee delen met de ladders (bevestigd op spiegels) plaatste ik tegenover elkaar in de gang achter de voordeur.
